This shelter was constructed using:
- Three trees
- A 6x8 foot plastic tarp
- Parachute cord
- A dozen rocks
- A few broken sticks found on the ground
This shelter is designed for two people to live in during winter conditions. Because the people are designed to be sleeping underneath the plastic tarp, it is constructed so that rain or snow will bead off and to prevent the people from getting wet underneath. The front of the tarp is held up initially by being bound to two trees on the top side. In order to give the shelter a tent-like shape a stick was drilled into the ground so that there is a peak in the middle. This forces any rain or snow that falls on the tarp to run along the sides of the tarp and onto the ground, away from the sleeping area, keeping the people dry.
The back of the shelter is held by sticks placed in the ground and fastened to the ground to prevent the shelter from blowing away if there is strong wind.
To keep the people living in the shelter warm enough there is a fire pit located about 3 feet from the shelter. The fire pit is about six inches deep and has rocks surrounding it so that no sparks can shoot out and cause a fire, but allows the heat generated by the fire to warm up the shelter.
